Dan Fergus Sr.
Established in 1964, the Fergus Law Firm has a proud history of serving Abilene and the Texas Midwest. Dan Martin Fergus, Sr. graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1950. He was admitted to practice in the Federal Courts of the Northern District of Texas in 1951, and later admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

He began his legal career in Houston with the Montieth Law Firm. In 1952 he moved to Abilene and practiced with the Brooks Law Firm, leaving there to form his own solo practice in 1964.

In 1979 James H. Smart joined the firm, practicing as Fergus & Smart until 1983, when Dan Fergus, Jr. joined the firm, becoming Fergus & Fergus.

Dan, Sr. was well-known for his expertise as an Oil & Gas lawyer. He served as President of the Abilene Bar Association, President of the Petroleum Club of Abilene, and President of the West Central Texas Oil & Gas Association. Dan was a Boy Scout leader, a Co-Founder of Big Brothers - Big Sisters in Abilene, and taught Sunday School for many years.

Dan Fergus, Jr. has headed the firm since the death of Dan, Sr. in 2004.
